Broken Systems = Broken Results
We’ve spent the last few weeks in our new location (Video Pool – 100 Arthur Street; video with directions here) exploring what makes a place feel safe for exploring our beliefs. That’s what this community exists to facilitate, so we’ve been asking how we could do that as well as possible. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our conversations and all the thoughtful input from the group. It’s a delight to learn with and from one another, and you’ll see some of your ideas in action this Sunday.
This week, we’ll check in during Community Time, then come at exploring what we believe from a somewhat different angle: a critical look at how the dominant structures of Christianity are designed to deliver the results we see. It’s not a pretty picture, but it is an illuminating one and worthy of exploration. It can also potentially help us think critically about our own beliefs and ways of operating, both individually and collectively, to avoid repeating the mistakes history reveals. Odds are pretty good we’ll make some mistakes of our own, but perhaps we can at least avoid recycling some of those already made. It’s worth a shot….:)
We’ll meet at 10:45 am (wrap up at noon). Kids Table is planned for the second, third and fourth Sundays of each month so there will be no particular organized activities in that regard this week, but there will be a designated space. On which topic – if anyone is interested in joining the group that presently facilitates the Kids Table, it would be awesome to add a fourth week to that rotation. If you are interested, let me know at this email address and I’ll pass that along to the team.
On the housekeeping front, we’re still short on what is needed to meet our end of the month obligations for September, so if you were planning to make a donation but it slipped your mind, here’s a nudge.
Also, mark your calendars for a Souper Sunday gathering on October 18th. For anyone unfamiliar, that’s a potluck. Plan ahead and do something creative with your Thanksgiving leftovers. 🙂
