It can feel like this part of a church website is supposed to be punchy and succinct. There is a real temptation to write down what one might think (or what the research says) people want to hear when they are online shopping for a church. (By the way…what the research says is that a LOT of people choose a church based on the washrooms. We try to keep ours clean enough.) Instead of that, we just want to try and tell you something about who we are, and you can decide if that sounds interesting or not.
We’re ordinary people. We struggle with all the ordinary things people struggle with. We’re not uniquely sorted out or tidied up. We get together to learn how to love and follow God by living in the way of Christ, or – for some of us – to try to figure out if that’s what we really want to do. We meet in a space that feels enough like home to say, “Welcome,” but not so much like home that we forget that the way of Christ leads us everywhere, not just to “church.” We’re trying to learn how to love God, to love one another, and to love the world that is our sacred trust. We hope to provide a space to continue discovering what that could look like. It’s an ongoing, widening process, without a forgone conclusion.
We meet for coffee at 10:30 a.m. (ish) on Sunday mornings, and then gather together to explore what we believe at 10:45 a.m. at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre, 180 Market Avenue East. The Kids Table, where our young ones go exploring, happens at the same time. We try to wrap things up by noon, and sometimes we succeed.
If that sounds interesting to you, drop in!
