A Blurb For No Gathering

Aug 6, 2018

Hey everyone…just a reminder that our location this long weekend Sunday is…wherever you want to be. We have no gathering scheduled, so head for the lake, the forest, the park, the couch (?)…wherever you think of when you think “re-creation”. Try to be still for five whole minutes, just to feel the “breath of God” going in and out of your lungs and the stuff of life pulsing through your veins. Remind yourself that “every breath is grace”, as we sometimes sing together.

This past Sunday, a group of us gathered in the space that has been home to the SLAM Camp for newcomer kids for the past several weeks. I chose that venue because I wanted as many of us as possible to get at least a taste of an initiative our community has become part of. It’s pretty exciting to think that there’s a bunch of kids that are showing up every day to work on their language skills as well as art and music and sports, right in the heart of Winnipeg. When I walk into that classroom or chat with one of these kids, I sometimes think “Someday, I’ll see where you end up and have a great big grin on my face when I think of you at SLAM Camp, forming that first paragraph in a brand new language”. So cool that we get to be part of that! We’ll get a more complete report some Sunday in the weeks to come.

In the meantime, here’s the URL for a nice little piece the CBC did on the camp, just to give those of you that weren’t there a peek at the place “in action”.

And a reminder that the following week (August 12th) we’re back at Pantages. At this point, it looks like we’ll be back there for a nice run going into the fall. Whew…

I’ll see you on the 12th..

Peace,

Tim Plett
