Field Trip To 372 Notre Dame!! (no podcast)

Jul 29, 2018
There – I did it. I used TWO exclamation marks in a subject line. And I SHOUTED in the very next sentence. There are several ways this might be accounted for. Perhaps I’m a growing person, and my usual even-keeled personality is getting a bit more dynamic. Maybe I’m fraying at the edges. Could be that my writing skills are simply getting caught up in the powerful current of the written-word malaise that appears to be the logical outcome of the punctuation madness we call “texting”. Or maybe I’m just that revved up.  (!!)
You decide. But the best way to see if said “field trip” is worth any exclamation points at all is to show up. This week (the last gathering before we skip one for the long weekend) we’ll be meeting at an address where there has been a lot of excitement for the past few weeks, in order to get a glimpse of the wonderful initiative that The Table has quietly become part of. I’m talking about SLAM Camp, a summer school program for new-to-Canada kids that we’ve taken under our wing over the past few months. We’ll be gathering in the exact space that is full from Monday to Friday with kids that are eager to hone their language skills, as well as playing together and engaging in artistic endeavors ranging from visual arts to learning violin or guitar to playing Ultimate Frisbee. And while we’re there, we’ll be doing some learning of our own. I don’t want to oversell this, but what I am planning to do for the Talky Bit is new terrain for me at The Table, so I suspect it will be for you as well. You know…like learning a new language or culture might be. It’ll involve an ancient story that includes a serpent, but not that serpent story.
We will be meeting at 372 Notre Dame. For any of you that think you know what this space is like (because back in 2016 we met at the same address for a while), brace yourself for a change. We’re in a different part of the building, which has been completely renovated for the new school. The main entry is now off the back lane…yep, all the way around the back to an obvious set of double doors. I’ll put out the sign as well, but don’t try to come in either the front or side doors that we used in the past. Come to the back. Parking is on the surrounding streets, and in back of the building. You can also park in the lot beside the building, on the side opposite the Calvary Temple parking lot.  We will gather at our usual time – somewhere within shouting distance of 10:30 a.m.
There will also be a space for the littles, and I’ll make sure I bring the lego box. No lego box = disaster, right?
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
