Good Morning Table Community,
Reminders: -There is a short gathering at 8:00 PM on Good Friday in the C Gallery. As much as you are able, come prepared to be silent.
                     -We will gather at 9:30 AM Sunday for a potluck breakfast, please  bring what you are able to share.

There’s this funny thing that happens these days whenever somebody is about to give away a little bit too much about a movie or a book, the teller (if he or she has any sense of decency) stops and says “spoiler alert” before revealing some important plot point to the listener. The reason we feel so obliged to offer this warning is because we understand that for a story to have the greatest effect on us, we need to read, hear or see it in the order its author intended. To know the ending before we’ve seen the beginning or middle changes our perception of the story and keeps us from empathizing with the characters; after all how can we really buy into a story when we know that the shrink was dead all along; that it was all a dream; that Rick doesn’t get on the plane with Ilsa; or that Rhett doesn’t give a damn? (Kudos if you can name all those movies)

Every Easter we come back to a familiar story, one that we all know the ending of, and that knowledge shapes how we read everything that leads up to it. It keeps us at a cool distance from the agony that the disciples were going through for those torturous two days before the resurrection, thus downplaying the importance of their faithfulness throughout that desperate time. This week we’re going to use music and narrative to spend some time in those dark days by exploring the emotional inner lives of a few of Jesus’ followers as they try to navigate a future suddenly devoid of their leader and their hope. With any luck we’ll leave with a greater appreciation of just how good the good news of the gospel really is.
