Self Care / Creation Care – A Conversation with Anna Bigland-Pritchard

May 23, 2021

Every once in while, as I’ve traveled the paths of my sometimes convoluted career, I’ve met people that made me really sit up, take notice, and feel uniquely hopeful about theongoing conversation around religion, spirituality and culture. This group of people has varied wildly in their articulated beliefs, and collectively could form the basis for a truly fascinating exhibit on how many different ways there are to go about shaping a society for the better. Some of those people call themselves “culture makers”. That’s one of theways Anna identifies – as an unapologetic, committed-to-the-core culture maker, an agent of change who is passionate about making this world a better place.

Anna is also someone that is highly attenuated to the ongoing global crisis of climate change, and deeply aware of the ways in which this impacts us as whole persons; body, mind and spirit. This Sunday, she will lead us into an exploration of the reciprocal nature of self care as creation care; ways in which our thriving both depends upon and gives vital energy to the well-being of the earth. My experiences with Anna suggest that we should come expecting to be drawn into both ideas and experiences that might be new to us, in ways that are gracious, kind, life affirming and beautiful. I’m looking forward to our time together.

Here’s how it’ll work (the details):
We’ll meet here at 10:45 a.m., as is our covid-custom (new word-in-the-making there?). We’ll share some music and community time. Then, directly after that is over, we’ll get together with Anna. BUT (beep beep – don’t miss this part!), that will happen on Zoom, NOT on Facebook! I’ll post the Zoom link for that part at the end of this email. Please feel free to share the link and to invite people that are not part of the Facebook group to join us for the time with Anna. This event will be live streamed only; no podcast and no version in the Facebook archive. As they used to say on bingo nights, you have to be in the room to win. We’ll be aiming to wrap up around noon, but it may flow over into the And Lunch After time slot.
Some other practical considerations:
  • Anna suggests that we each have a pen/pencil and some paper handy for our time together. I don’t know why exactly – I’m looking forward to finding that out along with everyone else.
  • Feel free to arrive when you can and leave when you need (or choose) to.
  • You can leave your camera off if you wish. Join the session with your mic muted; the host(s) will let  you know when it’s time for us to speak with one another. FYI – there will be some points where interaction / participation are invited. As is always the case at The Table, you are free to choose to jump in or not.
Here’s the Zoom link.

I’ll see you on Sunday!

PS – Anna will be joining us from Victoria, B.C., so if she seems a bit punchy initially, cut her some slack. It’s early out there…:)
