The Deep End Part 9b
Hey folks – last week we planned to explore the place that anger has on the road to recovery from religious trauma and Religious Trauma Syndrome. And we almost did. 🙂 However, as sometimes happens, our Community Time conversation expanded and “poof” – it was time to go home! I want to acknowledge that there is some tension in a moment like that, because it’s both delightfully organic and human and communal when it happens, and it also means we didn’t do what we said we would in that gathering. So this Sunday, we’re going to try again. My mom might have said, “Sometimes, when you get bucked off, you just have to get back on the horse”. Yeehaw! 🙂
By the way, for those not able to attend, our conversation last Sunday generally revolved around how changing our beliefs about life after death gets us into complicated terrain when it comes to imagining things like reuniting with loved ones, etc. That’s an important and tender conversation, and in this community it happened rather spontaneouly. I think that’s something to celebrate.
We are continuing to gather at our home. I’ve included directions at the bottom of the email. To give you a short report on the venue search, we’ve found some spaces that could work, but we can’t afford them. We’ve found some that we could afford, but that won’t work. So we’re not there yet. My delight in having this community in our home is undiminished. Thanks for being willing to make the drive.
So…we’ll gather at 10:45 am at our home (if you need the address, please send me an e-mail), catch up with one another in Community Time, and then (once more) explore anger as an important step on the road to recovery from religious trauma. We will livestream here and podcast the Talky Bit later in the week here. There won’t be any facilitated activity for our youngsters, but there will be spaces for them to be creative and to enjoy one another’s company, both inside and outside.
A schedule note – next week is a Souper Sunday (potluck) and our AGM. For anyone unfamiliar, this is the least cumbersome AGM I’m aware of. Justin will catch us up on the financial year past, I’ll have something to say about some leadership transitions (nothing ominous hidden in there, just joyful acknowledgment), and we’ll carry on with enjoying spring. Yes, I do still believe in spring. The location for this gathering is pending. I’ll keep you posted on that and any necessary potluck details.
Peace,
