Adrian Jacobs at The Table!

Feb 25, 2018

NOTE: This blurb contains several items of importance. If possible, please read the whole thing.

You know I don’t tend to throw exclamation points around, so that effusive subject line is a clue about how excited I am to have Adrian Jacobs join us for our gathering at The Table this Sunday. Adrian is Cayuga First Nation of the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. He is presently the Keeper of the Circle at the Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre near Beausajour, MB. My experience with Adrian is that he brings a unique combination of personal experience and deep insight to the First Nations / Settler dialogue, to the history of colonization and it’s impact on indigenous peoples, and to the intersection between First Nations spirituality and Christianity. My challenge will be to try to decide where to begin our conversation on Sunday, but I know from the time I’ve spent with Adrian that no matter which path we go down, you won’t want to miss what he brings to it. If you only show up for one gathering at The Table this year, make it this one. We’ll be at Pantages.

March 4th Potluck (and AGM): In plain speech, we get to have a potluck, and we are required to have an AGM. We’ve never had a train-wreck potluck, and we’ve never had a long AGM, so I think that bodes well.

Media Team: Don’t be intimidated by the team name – this is not a call for designers of programmers or some other super-high-tech role. But it is important! It’s the job that Jodi and Judi primarily handle on Sunday mornings – putting up items on the screen so we can all do things like sing together. That team recently lost a member, and has been one short for a while, so really we need two new folks to step up. You can indicate your interest by speaking with Jane Penner in person, or by replying to this email.

Venue – we are back on the hunt for a place to gather when we get preempted at Pantages. Hep Cat (our usual go-to for the black out dates at Pantages) is having trouble with the ceiling and won’t be usable by the time we need a space (March 11th). We have some ideas we’re chasing down, but more are welcome. Just keep in mind that we need space for both the adult group and the littles. If you have any suggestions or contacts, you can let me know in person, or by replying to this email.

Tax Receipts for 2017 are ready. Justin will be emailing them out if we have your email address. If not, he’s printed them out and they will be available for pick up at The Table on Sunday mornings. If you expect but don’t receive a receipt, or you get one but there are discrepancies between your records and the receipt, please contact me. This community of welcome and exploration exists because of the support of those that give – thank you!

I hope to see you on Sunday.

Peace,
Tim Plett
