Mother’s Day, Kids Table and an Invitation

May 10, 2026

Hey folks – welcome to Mother’s Day weekend. I’m aware that a “special day” comes with both delights and challenges, especially once the greeting card companies get ahold of it. And yet, for all sorts of significant reasons, we collectively pause once a year to mark the unique role, value, and impact that mothers have had in our lives and in the world around us.

This year, we’ll do that at The Table by considering some of the wisdom of mothers, both from the wider collection of human experience, and from our own lives. We’ll gather at 10:45 am at the Plett house (please e-mail me if you need the address), spend some moments centering ourselves, share some of what is going on in our lives, and then pull the chairs into a circle (something we haven’t done in a while) and talk about what we’ve can learn from that pool of wisdom, as well as some of what we’ve learned from either our own moms or from those who may have held those kinds of roles in our lives. As you are able, take a few moments to reflect and consider what you might have to share. We will not be livestreaming or podcasting the sharing part of our gathering.

There is also something planned for the kids. Adventure awaits!

And finally, the good folks at The Exchange Community Church have asked me to extend an invitation to anyone who wishes to join them for their Mother’s Day dessert potluck at 4:30 on Sunday. The community gathers at 75 Albert Street. All are welcome, with or without a dessert. Be advised that the meeting space is on the 5th floor, and there is no elevator.

I’ll see you on Sunday.
