Is The Best Yet To Come?
Hey folks…it seems to me there are some things we shouldn’t try to cram into a “yes or no” question. Like “is the best yet to come?”. Yes or no? How about, “it depends”? It depends on all sorts of things, among them whether we are willing to keep evolving our dreams, aspirations, and beliefs. This week in the Talky Bit I want to surf the wave of our current reflections on compassion by exploring some ways in which ancient ideas can either leave us stuck with the belief that the best is in the past, or provide inspiration for a better future. Along the way, we’ll get to hear from an artist I regard as one of the best wordsmiths I’m aware of, as well as from a prophet who is convinced that God is really, really mad (isn’t that every prophet?)…but also capable of other emotions. Buckle up – it might be a roller coaster. 🙂
We’ll gather at Creative Manitoba (245 McDermot Avenue, 4th floor) at around 10:30 a.m. I don’t know if we’re making coffee yet. Hey someone that knows about this – at what morning temperature do we start making coffee? 🙂 (see the note below regarding set up team needs)
A couple of other important details:
1. Thank you to the people that really stepped up their donations this summer. We’ve come through what is always a challenging season for us in better financial shape than usual, which is both encouraging and very helpful in practical ways like paying the bills.
2. As we head toward the fall (there – I said it), we need some help at The Table. There are a few teams that each need one or two more people to jump in. As follows:
-Music: the current teams are doing a great job, but between new babies, new jobs and just life in general, we could really use at least one more musician / musical team.
-Set Up Team: as for music, the folks that are already involved are stellar…and we could really use one more person / pair of people.
-Kids Table: once again, one more person would be great!
If any of these areas spark some interest in you, please be in touch. You can reach me at this email address or just chat with me in person to get more info, or to be referred to someone that knows more. In each case, you get to say what level of availability you have, so don’t back away because you are concerned about that. Let’s talk…
I’ll keep you posted as things shape up going forward, but that’s it for now.
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
