Re-balancing the world?

Hey everyone…as I’m writing this, it’s pouring rain outside, and it feels COLD! Maybe it’s the combination of the rain and the fact that last night it went down to one degree, but I feel chilly. And that makes me want summer back! Now, before I do too much whining, I should let you know that this Sunday at The Table we will be taking a trip back to this past summer via a report (complete with pictures, with warm sunshine in them!) from Corinne Plett about SLAM Camp as well as a wee bit about the day camp we held in our backyard. For those of you that have NO idea what I’m talking about (as I’ve discovered is the case for quite a few folks at The Table), SLAM Camp is a day program that ran this past summer in the core of Winnipeg in partnership with The Table. Sort of a quiet partnership, in some ways, because we’re just getting started. However, I think this is a fantastic way for our community to be part of “re-balancing” the world, and of making a contribution to welcoming newcomers to Canada in ways that are both kind and deeply practical – a powerfully good combination. It’s a way of us “giving back” some of what we have to people whose needs match our “more than enough”.  I won’t say more about that except to encourage you to come and see for yourself both what has happened and what the future might hold.

Location– Creative Manitoba; see the web site for more details, or just come to 245 McDermot Avenue and follow the spiffy signs. We’ve got more of them than ever, so no one should find themselves accidentally climbing the fire escape ever again. (True story – the persons involved shall remain nameless, unless they choose otherwise.)

Kids Table– off to a rockin’ start last week, and now ongoing. Bring the littles.

Teams– There’s been some summer attrition, and we could use a bit more help making this gathering happen week by week. In particular, the Media Team and our musicians could all use some bolstering. Talk to me or to Jane Penner, who does all the scheduling. Many hands make light work, and all that.

Photos– we could use someone to take a bunch of pics of The Table “in action”. And we would love to have folks submit some photos of their own that could be used as backgrounds for song lyrics, etc. If you’ve got photos you are willing to send our way, you can email them to <media@thetablewinnipeg.com>

FAQ– I feel like I often field the same few question from people that are just checking out The Table. In the interest of making that whole process easier for people, we’ve put up a FAQ page on the website. If you’ve got a minute, check it out and give me any feedback you think might be helpful. Are the additional questions that need to be addressed? Did you find the errant typo? Help us help other to find their way to The Table. I think we’ve got something unique and good going on – let’s share it.
