There’s more than one way to play that…

Mar 25, 2018

Hey folks – as we get deeper into this season of bouncing between venues, I’ll make a point of putting location info right off the top in these blurbs.

Location: So…this week we’re at Creative Manitoba, 245 McDermot Avenue (fourth floor). Creative Manitoba Location Info

Here’s a couple of things we learned about finding your way to the actual space last time we were there: the address is McDermot, but the doorways are just around the building corner on Arthur Street. As usual, we’ll put out the sign by the door that leads up a short flight of stairs to the elevator. And a word about that elevator – it works fine, but (like some children) it doesn’t respond quickly when called. Just be patient. There is also an alternative way in, so here’s a bit more info. If you want to take the stairs, the door you want is the obvious “main entry” that is on the very corner of the building at Arthur and McDermot. The sign above that door says “Pan Am Boxing” with a “Creative Manitoba” sign above that. Just remember – you have to hike all the way to the fourth floor before you will find us. If you turn off too soon, you might find yourself surrounded by people throwing punches.

We will be at Creative Manitoba this Sunday (March 25th) as well as Easter Sunday (April 1st) and April 8th. I’ll keep you posted on location for the 15th, but at the moment it looks we won’t be out on the street. More to follow. Watch this space…

Easter Sunday Potluck: We are going to feast together! I know that some of you were just at our home outside the city for a potluck last Sunday, but that was just a bonus. We’ve been planning the Easter one for a while. So put that in your phone. We’ll gather at the usual time, and if you can stay for lunch afterward, please do. No rules about what you bring – hot, cold, bag of chips from the corner store…doesn’t matter. Just stay if you can and have some time to hang with folks.

Media Team: Progress has been made! We now have three people on this team…and to make this a sustainable rotation, we should have four. So there’s still room for you! No extraordinary technical acumen required. Training provided, by some of the most understanding and kind people I know, and all without anyone lapsing into “techno-speak”. So lovely…

New-To-Canada After School Support: still booming, still needs some more volunteers! For more info, contact Corinne Plett   <tcplett@gmail.com>

Talky Bit: I know lots of musicians that can read music, and I admire them for that skill. I know some that can improvise, and I like that a lot. I know some that can do both, and those people are the ones that tend to blow me away. When it comes to exploring how to practice an ancient spirituality in a post-modern (post, post, post modern, depending who you’re reading) setting, knowing how to read what’s on the page matters, but if we can’t do something fresh with what’s already there we just might be bound to repeating the past in ways that are frustrating and ultimately offer diminishing returns. So this week, a bit of a riff on an ancient text – Psalm 8. If you have a moment to read the “original”, do it. It’ll make the improvisation all the more interesting. And since it’s not Easter just yet, this will all be tied to Lent. And to spring. Whoop!

Gonna stop now…and hit send.

See you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
