Love made real…

October 4, 2015
Hello Tablers. Question – Do you ever leave an encounter with a news outlet feeling sort of weary? I do. I close the link, turn off the radio, put down the publication…and what comes out of me is this deep, deep sigh. It’s not always weariness. Sometimes it’s empathy, or a kind of “here we go” that leads to an action. But it always seems to come from somewhere pretty fundamentally “human”.

I suspect this is a shared experience, not least of all because suffering is a shared experience. Suffused as we are with reports about human anguish, and knowing it in our own lives, can leave us feeling a sense of futility. Why bother even taking this one on?

Well, I know that question won’t fall to a formulaic answer, or it would have been resolved by now. That said, it also doesn’t seem to be going away. So maybe that makes it one of the questions that we are meant to wrestle with in an ongoing way. Intriguingly, it’s a question that is addressed by one of the practical “one anothers” outlined in the way of Jesus. So this Sunday we’re going to have a go at the question of what to do about suffering.

And speaking of Love Made Real…it’s a Kids Table Sunday! Big shout out to Amy and her crew for making this happen again this year. Thank you, thank you!

We’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
