Here’s the blurb for this week:
Leonard Cohen once described the passage we’re going to talk about this week as “the staggering account of the Sermon on the Mount” and as I’ve been working through the three chapters that comprise what could be called Christ’s inaugural speech, I’ve begun to feel that staggering may not be a sufficient term for what’s been recorded in the Gospel of Matthew.
Despite the daunting nature of the task, we’re going to try to dig into just a small section of this pivotal address, while keeping in mind the season of Advent we find ourselves in so that we might gain an understanding of just what Christ’s arrival in the world as a screaming, stinky, homeless, soon-to-be refugee infant has to do with our responsibility to the poor, the needy, the naked and the imprisoned that were always so close to Jesus’ heart.
