A Not-So-Secret Conspiracy (Part 1)

December 7, 2014

Today I had the wonderful privilege of going to see the MTC Theatre production of The Heart of Robin Hood. It was superb, predicated on a very different take on a familiar story and full of interesting characters. Two of the characters are a pair of child siblings. At many points in the story, they are victims…of loss, of violence, of abandonment.

But there is this one scene where the older sibling, the boy, fights back when his younger sister is threatened. He leaps onto the back of a much stronger, very dangerous villain and attacks him with the only weapon he has – a broken segment of his fishing pole, which said villain has just snapped over his knee.

It’s an inspiring scene, one that made me want to stand up and cheer for underdogs everywhere that take on what isn’t right. It also made me wonder what it looks like to “fight back” against some of what is so egregiously wrong in our culture. And since I’ve been thinking Advent sort of thoughts, to push back against some of what is obviously awry with Christmas.

So that’s what I want to explore for the next weeks leading up to Christmas – some ordinary, legal ways to conspire against what seems nonsensical in the way our culture marks this season.

Important Details:

The Kid’s Table – is on this week!  Next Kid’s Table date is December 14th. If the community would like to see this happen every week, Amy is going to need some more help. Talk to her on Sunday, or reply to this email and I’ll pass it along to her.

The Christmas Party – mark the evening of Sunday, December 21st for our Christmas gathering. We will only meet in the evening on that Sunday, not in the morning. Check the white board for ways you can pitch in to help us celebrate together.

See you on Sunday!

Peace,
Tim Plett
