This Week At The Beach
First of all, let me acknowledge that “the beach” won’t be everyone’s favourite metaphor for “holiday”. All that sand, and so hot. Eeww! That said, this coming Sunday lands in the middle of the August long weekend so there will be no gathering at VA. Hence, “this week at the beach”. All good?
However, there is an upcoming event that was brought to my attention by someone in the community and that I wanted to make you aware of. It may feel like a marked contrast to any notions we have about recreation, but it addresses an important reality. I would encourage you to pass this along if you are aware of anyone for whom it might be relevant or interesting. As follows:
An event called Story Rising is coming to Thunder Bay ON between August 13-15 and they are accepting applications.
From the website:
“Story Rising events are designed as a provision to survivors of clergy sexual abuse – it’s a safe space to reclaim a sense of self within a story of abuse. With the support of coaches/facilitators who have combined expertise and training in trauma-informed care and abuse recovery, participants can identify, name, and sort the wounded parts of their story and curate them into a meaningful, truth-filled narrative. This offers tools that can help build resilience to navigate ongoing recovery and any personal, spiritual, relational, or legal challenges on the journey ahead.”
The cost for the event is $300.00 unless you obtain sponsorship. If you’re coming in from out of town, you’ll have to find a way to get here.
More info can be found at the website linked below:
And finally, if you are someone who enjoys podcasts on your drive to said beach, I would encourage you to check out our extensive online podcast archive, including the most recent thoughtful, invitational and provocative offerings from Tim Penner, Judi, Misty and (coming soon!), Theresa. You can find that, as well as ways to contribute financially to keep this conversation going, here.
We will resume our weekly in-person gatherings at VA on August 13th.
On a personal note, a huge shout out to the above mentioned Talky Bit contributors and those who did some extra heavy lifting while our family was away. I really don’t have adequate words for my appreciation, but “thank you” at least gestures in the right direction. I’ve enjoyed the time away and also missed being together with the community. I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon!
I hope you have a re-creative long weekend.
Peace,
Tim Plett
