I Doubt It Part 12B – The Necessity of Reality
I admit it – I take a kind of curious satisfaction in coming up with titles and subject lines that make me grin. They don’t always make sense (or at least they’re not always obvious), but they aren’t random either. Maybe they are kind of like life that way. In any case, explaining them helps me think through the Talky Bit’s, so thanks for coming along for the ride. 🙂
Two explanations for this one:
- Why 12B? Well, that’s a nod to the superstitious in our midst, just in case mixing “reality” and “13” would jinx the whole series or send reality tumbling into the abyss. Can’t have that now, can we? 🙂
- How could reality be anything BUT necessary? I mean really…where would we be without it? And what does that have to do with exploring what we believe and doubt and faith?
Join us online (this week) on Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. here or by podcast here later in the week to see if Tim can actually make a convincing case for those things having anything meaningful to do with one another, or if he’s just going to take the whole series down in it’s 12b-th episode.
And about that “(this week)” comment – we have a plan for getting humans together in the same room, at the same time, for the first time in…I’m not going to do that math. As it stands, here’s the plan and a schedule:
This week and next week (September 26th and October 3rd) will be online, as has been our “pandemic normal”. But then…
October

December

I’ll send out the particulars of those home gatherings the week before, but for now it might be helpful to know that one of them is in East St. Paul and the other is in Wolsley, so hopefully one or the other is within reasonable distance of wherever you are (assuming you are in Winnipeg). Both locations have separate spaces for the kids, just in case you’re a parent wondering about that detail. More details about the littles to follow in the coming weeks.
If there are other folks that want to offer their homes as part of this transition plan, let me know. And just FYI – attendees will need to be fully vaccinated and expect to wear masks indoors. Our littles will be there and although the progress toward kid vaccines is heartening we’re not there yet. Also, we’ll continue to livestream all the gatherings (that’s what “hybrid” means in the schedule) as well as podcasting the Talky Bits, so if you can’t or would prefer not to attend you needn’t be left out.
I was at a couple of live events this past week, and as one person I chatted with there said, it felt “life affirming” to be with others. That doesn’t mean it’s uncomplicated, of course. Re-entry is bound to feel awkward at least sometimes, and we can reasonably expect there to be some trial and error forward and back. Patience and kindness remain paramount. We can figure this out together.
Final details:
We will have And Lunch After this week, and typically every week we gather online. On the weeks when we gather in-person, there will not be an online zoom hang following the gathering. We will also have our Wednesday evening Zoom hangout this week. Links for both of those are below:

I’ll see you on Sunday.
