Who needs church when you could go to the beach…
We’re a fickle bunch, us Manitobans. Fair weather folks, it would seem, despite our stoic endurance of long and deep-freeze cold winters. I don’t know if you heard this particular news item today, but it seems that on this, the almost eve of the first long weekend of the camping season, campground reservations are down 60% from last year, ostensibly because there is too much rain in the forecast. See what I mean? Fair weather folks…
Now, I’m not planning to go camping myself. Too cold, too wet, if you know what I’m saying. But if the weather gets nicer at some point in the summer, I might go to the beach. In fact, if it gets really nice I may go to the beach no matter what other options there are for the same time slot. Let’s say it comes down to going to the beach or going to church. Well, if the weather is grand I’m off to the beach. Who needs church when you could go to the beach?
If you think that this is all starting to sound like a passive/aggressive tirade about summer church attendance, may I recommend that you show up on Sunday morning (yes, we are still meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings) at 318 Ross, at which time I will do my best to convince you that if you take the sand at the beach seriously enough, you don’t need to go to church. Really…
See you on Sunday. You might as well come…it’ll be rainy anyway.
Peace,
Tim Plett
