Where Do You Want To Hang Your Hat?
Sep 16, 2018
Hey folks – just a quick “heads up” about this blurb. It’s a bit longer than usual because it’s fall and there are all kinds of interesting and exciting “start up” things I want to tell you about. However, if you’re reading this on your phone that means it won’t all fit on the first screen, so scroll down.
Location – we’re at Creative Manitoba, 245 McDermot Avenue, 4th floor. Kudos to those that have made the effort to find us here as visitors, and to those that find kind words for the pokey elevator. It’s a good space, and worth the trek.
Kids Table – it’s a delight to be able to say that Kids Table is BACK ON! Whoop! Amy and the team are ready to go, so bring the littles. I’m so grateful for the team of volunteers that pour themselves into the youngest members of our community each week.
Parent / Child Dedication – We’ll be including a Parent / Child Dedication in our gathering on September 30th. If you are someone that wants to join in that event and have the community offer it’s collective blessing to both you as a parent and to your child (or children), let me know. It won’t be anything onerously formal; that’s just not our style. But I expect it will be meaning-rich and from the heart, because there is a lot of collective love at The Table for our young ones.
Media Team – the good folks that help us sing together by putting images on the screen could use some help. Even adding one more person to that team would make a big difference to what it takes to help that happen week by week. It would be about a once-a-month commitment, and quite flexible. You can talk to Jane Penner, or to whomever is sitting at the computer on any given Sunday morning.
Pictures – two items here:
-We would love to have people contribute some of their own images to be used as backgrounds for song lyrics. You don’t have to do anything to prep the images; just send them our way. You can email them to my email address (the one this email came from), and I’ll pass them along to the media crew.
-And we would really like to have some pictures of our actual community to put on the web site. If you like taking pictures and would be willing to do some “shooting” around the place when we gather on Sundays, let me know. I think this might help people that are trying to imagine what sort of community meets at The Table get an actual “picture” of who we are. And, of course, we won’t put anyone’s picture up on the website without their permission.
Talky Bit – I thought about titling this “The Tale of Two Hat Racks”, but decided that might be a bit pretentious. However, what I want to explore is a metaphor for belief that does, in fact, involve two hat racks. As a friend of mine recently observed, we mostly approach God through metaphors, and we can only really make metaphors out of things we know something about. I know something about hat racks, so that’s going to be the window we look through on Sunday. Wait a minute…was that another metaphor?
I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace
Tim Plett
