The Qualities of a Renewable Mind
Hey folks – our “spring venue tour” has us back at Creative Manitoba this week and next. Since many of us have already visited this intriguing venue, I’ll put the directions at the end of the email and make space at the beginning for some other important details.
The good people at Creative Manitoba have been letting us use two of their rooms for what is essentially the price of one. This weekend, they have a group renting out the small room for two full days – important revenue for them. So we’re collaborating and helping them keep the doors open by giving that room up for the morning. The Kids Table team gave me the green light on this in advance, and have also come up with what I think is a great alternative to their customary indoor program – they’re off to the park! Just down the block, but an outdoor adventure all the same. Whoop! (If all of a sudden it’s time for the Talky Bit and you can’t find me, check the park…).
Some important details about this plan – if you’re a parent whose child is part of Kids Table, you might want to dress them accordingly. Also, Arielle (the bold) is leading this excursion, and would welcome some extra adult company. She’s recruited some already, but if you think you might want to join in, put on your sunscreen and head out. (Of course, this is all weather-dependent and there is a “plan b” that is indoors).
Talky Bit – our explorations in the past couple of weeks have touched on the transformative value of a renewed mind. This week I want to drill right into that subject with some consideration of the qualities of a renewable mind. Along the way we’ll bump into an important and influential realm of psychotherapy, a song for trouble-shooting the world, and a frequently misread parable. If not something for everyone, then at least several things for some of us.
Here are the directions to Creative Manitoba:
The building we’re in is located at 245 McDermot Avenue. Creative Manitoba is on the fourth floor.
Here’s a couple of things we’ve learned about finding your way to the actual space: the address is McDermot, but the doorways are just around the building corner on Arthur Street. As usual, we’ll put out the sign by the door that leads up a short flight of stairs to the (slow to arrive) elevator. There is also an alternative way in. If you want to take the stairs, the door you want is the obvious “main entry” that is on the very corner of the building at Arthur and McDermot. The sign above that door says “Pan Am Boxing” with a “Creative Manitoba” sign above that. Just remember – you have to hike all the way to the fourth floor (not the third floor, despite the Creative Manitoba signage on that floor) before you will find us. If you turn off too soon, you might find yourself surrounded by people throwing punches or in a stairwell that go no where (or at least on where you really wish to be).
I look forward to being together.
See you on Sunday,
Tim Plett
