The fascinating and disturbing Elijah

July 6, 2012

Hey, so I’m up again to chat with you about stuff faith related again. I really enjoy taking a look at different characters in the Old Testament especially. A couple of weeks ago, we talked about Abraham and his relationship with God, the craziness of God’s grace, the craziness of God’s demands, and the miracle of God’s revelation.
I’d like to explore the character of Elijah. He’s a fascinating and disturbing guy. We don’t get a lot of back story about him, he just sort of shows up announcing that God’s not happy with the king. Then he enters a kind of contest with the priests of another god. It all gets a little chaotic. We’ll pick up the story there, talk a little about worshiping rightly (however that gets qualified), God’s crazy demands (what he asks of Elijah is pretty insane), and God’s provision again (for some reason this theme keeps showing up).
I’ll try to keep in more interactive this time, so come open to discussion.
