The Art of Life (an alt.Sunday experience)
Hey folks. I’m sitting at my laptop with a little grin on my face as I write this because I’ve just rewatched the short film I’m planning to share with you all on Sunday. It’s beautiful, a bit of a mind-bender sometimes, with some woo-woo moments that make me wonder if maybe I’ve lived most of my life in the dark. I want us to watch it because it explores places I don’t even know how to access; places where math becomes spiritual, Buddhism becomes architectural and dolphins seem to be sentient. If that sentence sounds like nonsense, I can only suggest that we just watch the film and then talk about it.
One of the reasons I want to share the film at this time of year is because it offers an utterly different vantage point from the narratives that tend to surround us regarding what matters most to human happiness. And, as is always the case at The Table, we might choose to take such a journey because it can help us stand back, even just a little, from the assumptions we’re immersed in. We might not all charge out the door afterward determined to give our present life or beliefs the heave-ho, but we might go home with our heads, hearts and lives open to some notions about reality that weren’t there before. Some of those may mystify us, even confound us. Personally, I think that’s a good thing, and I hope this curious little film can make a positive contribution to that journey.
Some details:
We will meet and get started at VA Cafe at 10:45 a.m. If you want to get a beverage upstairs, let me remind that there can be a line up. 🙂 The film is 38 minutes long so if we get right into our Community Time (which we will livestream here), we can enjoy the film and some conversation afterward, people that need to can head out at noon, and those that wish to can hang around longer. We will not livestream the film, but you can find it online here..
Important December details:
Our Not Quite Christmas gathering and meal will be during our usual morning time on December 17th. It’s going to be a collection fo songs and stories. Not a carefully curated list, designed to retell a particular story, but (like the food we will also share) at “pot luck”; a collection of what we bring.
NOTE: The success of this idea depends on you emailing me your song suggestions. If you are willing to participate but haven’t done so yet, please do it as soon as reasonably possible in order for our musicians to have at least a bit of time with the ideas.
Finances: If you are able / inclined to help keep The Table operating by making a financial contribution, December is an excellent time to do so. Donations are tax-recieptable, and will be gratefully and directly applied to our being able to continue offering ways to explore what we believe, together. You can find details about how to donate here. Thank you for giving this your consideration. It matters.
I’m looking forward to exploring together. I’ll see you on Sunday.
