Souper Sunday

February 14, 2013

Hello Tablers!

Fair warning – this is a bit of a longer blurb. I suggest you read it
all, as there is important info near the end. Yes, I did that on
purpose…

This week it feels like the possibility of winter ending is no longer
a fantasy, and somewhere deep inside of me things that have been
frozen solid start to thaw, to move. It’s a good feeling. It feels
hopeful…

Sometimes our spirits experience something like this – a sense of
something stirring, stretching, getting ready to emerge. These are
things we need to nurture. They aren’t always tangible or easy to pin
down, and because of that we might find them easy to ignore. We need
to do the opposite. We need to attend to these stirrings, both
personally and corporately.

I think our community is also experiencing something akin to what I’ve
been trying to describe – a feeling that we are moving into something
new, something exciting, something that isn’t clear yet but that is
full of good possibilities. We need to explore and foster that!

One of the ways we can do that is by hearing from people within the
community that have this same sense. So for the next two Sundays, that
is what we will do. This week Trevor Williams will be taking on the
teaching time. He has this to say about where he will be headed:

“I am presenting my thoughts through a different form. My sermon is in
the mode of a slam poetry piece and is piggybacking on what Tim was
talking about last week. Tim was talking about our playful and
redemptive human element, the part of our human story that has longed
and attempted, almost infinitely, to express the invisible. This same
theme is found in our great story and in that space it is The Lord who
initiates these sacred and redemptive acts, destroying our
understanding of where he belongs as a fixed place and opening up the
possibility of his holy infusion, redeeming and igniting any place
where he deems necessary, to be re-filled with his splendor.”

Does that not sound fantastic?! I have had the privelege of a bit of a
preview of what Trevor is planning, and it will be something you do
not want to miss!

Another way we can explore things that are stirring is through time
together and conversation. This Sunday is also “Souper Sunday”. Please
plan to stay for lunch after the gathering. It is a potluck so bring a
dish to share if you are able & try your best to bring your own plate
& utensils along with your coffee cup! If you have any questions
please contact Maryanne (maryannejmeisner@gmail.com)

My only regret about this upcoming Sunday is that I won’t be there.
Corinne and I and our family will be off for a few days of vacation
together beginning on Saturday. I will be back in town in time to be
part of our gathering on February 24th.

Peace to you all,

Tim Plett
