Peace Series Part 2

June 10, 2012

This coming Monday is Part two of our peace series!

2 weeks ago we walked through a complicated history of Israel’s existence and how the conflicts in Israel reflect a deep rooted fundamentalist religious framework.  Fundamentalism is “I’m right and you’re wrong” type thinking and can be found in many conflicts throughout the world including those we experience in our individual day-to-day lives.

In this series, we’re looking at how different kinds of conflicts can fit into a number of narratives set out by Brian McLaren in his podcast, “Preemptive Peace Making.”  The six narratives McLaren discusses provide insight into different perspectives on creating peace and how most of these perspectives typically fall short. 2 weeks ago we started to talk about one narrative McLaren calls the Victimization story, a narrative that seems especially relevant to the conflict in Israel.  This Monday we’re going to discuss a few more narratives and the effects of these narratives globally and in our individual lives.

The goal of the series is to reach a discussion on McLaren’s final narrative that he calls the Gospel story.  McLaren provides a hopeful understanding of that narrative in its potential to bring peace both for the world and for each of us.

Looking forward to Monday!

Carolyn
