Not a new resolution…
It’s a new year, and for me that suggests another chance. Chance for what? For the shame of failed resolutions? The stats say that only about 8% (yep, that’s right – I didn’t miss a zero) will actually follow through on the things we resolve to do in the new year. Still, the idea of second chances has a deep and abiding appeal. Maybe more than that, do-overs are something most of us just plain NEED. We all make mistakes, miss the mark, fail to follow through on resolutions.
What I want to explore this Sunday is the possibility that what we need most is NOT a new batch of resolutions or rules to follow, but a different way of thinking about change. I intend to do that in the context of a passage of scripture that is usually thought of as compendium of rules – the Ten Commandments. So put on your “new year – new thinking” toque, and come find your place at The Table.
The Details:
A HUGE THANK YOU to all the folks that extended themselves and gave us such a great evening together on December 23rd! Great food, a worship time that included several readers, good music and gracious company…awesome! I like our Christmas parties!
Also a grateful thanks to all who made the trip out to the Plett Ranch on Sunday the 30th. We very much enjoyed having you in our home, and the boot hockey game was all bonus points! Jeremey – next time, we try this with skates…
We are back at The Frame this week – normal time (10:30 a.m.), normal day (Sunday). This must mean holidays are officially over!
A reminder to bring your own mug / cup if you want a hot beverage, or if you forget and need to borrow one from the house stash, to wash it after you use it.
Peace,
Tim Plett
