Keep your eyes open…
I had an extraordinary experience this week. My youngest son, Tirian, invited me to share the gift of an evening with him, attending the “How To Train Your Dragon” touring show at the MTS Centre. We went to together with a young friend of his and the friends father, also a dear personal friend. So far so good – how could that combination go wrong?
Good news – it didn’t go wrong. But it did go right in a way that I never anticipated. Half way through the show, I realized that even though the actors (and of course the dragons) on the stage didn’t know it, they were actually acting out the story that I wanted to teach from this week! Kinda blew me away. I think the two young women sitting next to us, wearing their souvineer dragon toques and pounding back red wine from their water bottles all evening, might have been wondering why the middle aged guy next to them had tears in his eyes at a part of the show that wasn’t sad. Honestly, I don’t think I could have helped myself. The thought that the world is so permeated with the goodness, the receptivity, the intitiative and grace of God that it would show up in a fantasy world of pseudo Vikings, high tech lighting effects and mechanical dragons just pushed me back in my seat. I’ll tell you all about it on Sunday…
Until then, keep your eyes and heart open for the presence of God in the places you least expect it, and even (especially?) in the places where you don’t believe it could possibly be.
Peace,
Tim
