I Did It On Purpose – A Full Circle Sunday

Apr 13, 2025

I suspect that many of us grew up in settings where the idea of being purposeful was a high value. We may have also been taught that for anything purposeful to be truly worthwhile, it had to be aligned with a mysterious something that was often referred to as “the will of God”. In other words, for our sense of purpose to be valid, it had to come from God. I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but I spent a lot of my youthful energy agonizing over this one. Looking back, I can’t help but wonder what might have been accomplished if I had just decided what I wanted to work at and got on with it instead of going in circles trying to “read the mind of God”.

Reflecting on all of that got me wondering what it would look like to kind of “hit rewind” and have a go at being purposeful outside of that sort of framework. The point is to explore being purposeful in a way that can “work” whether we have a religious frame of reference for it or not. In other words, a way that could work for everyone. That’s probably a bit ambitious, but hey…no one could really accuse The Table of being afraid to swing for the fences when it comes to exploring ideas. 🙂

We’ll gather at 10:45 at VA Cafe. We’ll have some music, some Community Time, some Kids Table, some Talky Bit.

Also, next Sunday is Easter (do you know where we got that word from?) and the week following that will be a Souper Sunday. Pie Sunday was just an on-ramp. So mark your calendars, set your alarms, do what you need to do to be in the room if you are able.

Also, a reminder (or general info for those that were not at the AGM) – in the words of our plain-spoken finance person, we’re broke. If you are able to give financially, please do. Information about various ways to do so can be found here. The Table is a registered charity, and tax receipts are provided. Thanks for giving this aspect of our shared existence your consideration.

I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
