How Do You Make Big Shadows For God To Move In?
Sep 9, 2018
Hey folks…the long weekend is past and gone, the nights are bordering on frosty, and I haven’t had to mow the grass for ages. Must be fall, my favorite time of year. It kind of feels like time to get back to work, back to getting things done.
We are making our home at Creative Manitoba these days. It’s a good space; warmly inviting, consciously considerate of multiple cultures and belief systems, lots of natural light, and it has heating and cooling that are predictable. That’s just a partial list, but it’s already a lot to be thankful for. We’ve signed a rental agreement that has us there until the end of the year, with the exception of one Sunday, so I think we can consider this “home base” for the time being.
The address is 245 McDermot Avenue, fourth floor. That’s the corner of McDermot and Arthur, in the heart of the Exchange District. There is full access by elevator, as well as a generous staircase for those that want both attend The Table and get some cardio in on a Sunday morning. Just a reminder that the elevator is a vintage item, and like other such things one part of it’s charm is that is moves a different speed than we might be accustomed to. Practice patience…
Kid’s Table – one more week to go until the Kids Table fires back up on September 16th. Lego will be on hand, and there is a designated space provided.
Talky Bit – I’ve been pondering what we can do as people that care about what sort of legacy we are creating to “get something started” that will matter after we’re gone. (This isn’t as morbid as it might sound, but it does mean acknowledging our mortality as a starting point). One of the ways I’ve been imagining this is built on the line of a Rainer Maria Rilke poem in which the poet has the voice of God inviting us to “make big shadows” that God can move in. What an intriguing invitation! How might we do such a thing, both as individuals and as a community? That’s the question I want to explore as we gather this week. Put your thinking cap on – I’ll want to hear some of your ideas about this.
We’ll gather around 10:30 and get started around 10:45. If it feels cool enough, there might be coffee. We’ll wrap it up by noon, unless your idea buckets are overflowing.
See you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim Plett
