Don't wear fancy clothes!
All right…time for a bit of clarification. This Sunday morning will
NOT be a “work morning”. We will NOT be cleaning up The Frame. In
fact, it is far more likely that we will be making a mess.
Our commitment as leadership at The Table is to use plain speech with
the community – to be as open and transparent as possible in our
communications. That said, I acknowledge that I have been a bit cagey
about telling you what we will be up to this coming Sunday morning. If
this next bit sounds paternalistic, please forgive me – I have been
secretive about this event because I’m excited about it and I wanted
it to be a surprise. It’s the same reason I don’t tell people what is
in a gift-wrapped present before they unwrap it – the anticipation for
both the giver and the receiver is part of the gift.
This Sunday, we will be doing some creative, communal mess-making. It
will involve paint – not on the walls, but on other surfaces. That is
why we’ve suggested you not wear your fanciest clothes. It will be
open to everyone, including the kids. It will be interwoven with
worship and teaching and community time. It will not be janitorial in
nature, although it may be custodial. The results will eventually
impact us all.
As you may have sensed, I intend to remain unapologetically vague. I
think this experience will be as intriguing, engaging and significant
as we have the courage to let it be. I think there will be ways in
which God can speak to us through it that are utterly unique. And, as
with Bingo (a communal church classic), you have to “be in the room to
win”.
See you on Sunday!
Tim
