Choices From The Margins

April 15, 2011

In the grand scheme of the church year, we are entering into the week that, in many ways, marks the pinnacle of Christian belief and worship. The story of the week before Christ’s death is a fast paced drama in which the central figure of Christ is borne inexorably toward the ultimate donation of self – the giving up of life. It is a tale of injustice, religious travesty, betrayal, deep friendship and great love. If you grew up going to church, you probably know the main outline of the story pretty much by heart.

As compelling a narrative as the central story line may be, I sometimes wonder how many of us relate to it. The drama is so outrageous (and sometimes the features of the story are so culturally distant) that, even if we regard the story as central to all we hold dear, it might be hard to find a character in it we can connect with. I’m intrigued by the characters on the margins of the story, and this week we’re going to poke around in their stories a bit. Perhaps in the stories of the people that played the “bit parts” we will find ourselves and those around us, and see that we don’t have to be embroiled in the sound and fury of the primary plot line to still end up facing the cross and it’s unlikely occupant with awe.

The photo theme for April is “facial segments”. you know the mouth, an eye, half a mouth with half a nose; whatever you like. It might require getting a little up close and personal with the subject, (or at least a good zoom) It will be fun to see what we get. 🙂

send your top three photos (complete with title of your choice) to: tracy@tahstudios.ca
