Chaos, then return to order…

March 22, 2012

This coming Sunday we have a guest teacher bringing his gift to us. If you are a regular part of our Sunday gathering, you probably know who Trevor is – a sturdy guy with a fine red beard; passionate, thoughtful, and a man with (at least in our context) some hidden talents. Following is Trevor’s summary of where he is headed this week:

I will be talking about how God limits himself of his power by creating covenant and intimate relationships. This intimacy is a response to the suffering that exists in our world, from our own personal biological hurt, to that of the social-structural violent systems that oppress the ‘least of the these’. We ask God where he is in the midst of our suffering and what does it mean and his answer is that he offers himself to us by limiting himself to be in relationship. Relationship requires a limit of self-interest from both parties (healthy relationship that is) and this relationship ensues from the very beginning when God speaks to the watery chaos and brings structure to that disarray. This chaos and then return to order and relationship carries on for the first 15 chapters of Genesis and then culminates in the Abrahamic Covenant,-the covenant of the suffering king who is present.

That is the scope of my message-probably over ambitious but hey so is me being allowed in His presence. His grace is what allows my imagination to soar.

Hopefully I can be concise and be not distracted by all the shiny rabbit trails.

Peace be with you.

Trevor
