Ancient Wisdom on Bullying…
Good Morning,
As you may have noticed, bullying is back in the news. Pressed to the
front of the media scrum by the force of tragedy, this particular
broken way of relating and it’s attendant issues seem to be calling
out for attention.
At the risk of stating the obvious, this isn’t a new problem. In fact,
we might reasonably speculate that it is as old as humanity. That
said, it does have some unique expressions these days. It needs to be
addressed, and when it becomes a current news item, we suddenly find
ourselves surrounded by experts.
Given that the problem is ancient, it seems to me that there might be
a place for some ancient wisdom in the conversation. That’s where we
will be headed this week – into the intersection of contemporary
bullying and ancient wisdom. Because really, if what we find on the
way of Jesus doesn’t apply when we are facing a bully, what place does
it have in our lives and culture?
And, as a not incidental companion to that conversation, it is Souper
Sunday! Which is actually going to be a Potluck this time. So bring an
item to share if you can, keeping in mind that we do not have kitchen
facilities at this location. contact Maryanne
(maryannejmeisner@gmail.com) with any questions and don’t forget your
own cup, plate & cutlery!
See you Sunday,
Tim
