A (very) Short History of Hell – an alt.Sunday
Given the subject line, I feel as though some explanation of how I decide what to explore in a Talky Bit might be in order. You might recall that a few months ago I asked for input from the community on what you think might be interesting to explore. I didn’t get a lot of responses and I would love more, so if you’ve got anything (and I mean anything) you think might be intriguing, please let me know. Otherwise, I’ll keep “following my nose”, as my mom would have said, and it might not lead me anywhere you find interesting. To put it another way, if you don’t like what I’ve been exploring, you can change it just by telling me what interests you.
Having said that, one of the suggestions I did get was to explore the history of the ideas of heaven and hell. I figure we might as well start with what is generally considered the “bad news” location, so this week I would like to offer a whirlwind tour of the history of human ideas about hell. There will be lots of stops along the way, but there are enough specific points of interest that we won’t spend long at any one of them. And (spoiler alert?) many of them may not be what we’re most familiar with.
So…show up at VA Cafe at 10:45 am on Sunday, We’ll take some time to check in with one another then go exploring (I almost said “in hell”, but that didn’t read quite right).
I’ll see you on Sunday. 🙂
Peace,
