The Darkness of Fear…
It occurs to me that many of us live our lives with a great deal of fear. Fear certainly pervades the social and political discourses of our times, and manages to seep into every sector of our lives from how we spend our money, to how we operate in relationships and even how we worship. It is this last aspect that concerns me the most since the idea of carrying out a relationship with God that is based on fear flies in the face of what we are promised in John where we are told that Christ did not come to the world to condemn it, but to save it. The hope of that statement is bright enough to outshine the darkness of fear, but sometimes it takes a while to figure out how to turn on the lights.
Join us this Sunday as we wrestle with how to overcome an image of God as hostile taskmaster operating through fear, formulas and rigid plans in order to discover the hope we’ve been promised. This is a journey I’ve been on for a number of paradigm-shattering years. Rarely has the journey been easy, but it has always been hopeful.
