The Act of Happiness

Nov 19, 2023

Hey folks – this is an alt.Sunday. To me, that feels a bit like an occasion for opening a gift – one where you know it’ll be good because it’s been thoughtfully chosen with you in mind, but you don’t know what it actually is until you tear off the paper. This Sunday, the gift comes to us courtesy of Karen Johnson.

Karen will be taking us for a walk through a course she completed on The Science of Well-Being. Through an abbreviated course summary, we will look at some of the how and the why of the pitfalls that don’t lead to happiness, and how we can recalibrate to get back on the path to making happiness. So get a good night’s rest on Saturday night, go for a walk early on Sunday morning, and then meet us at VA Cafe for some thoughts to consider. We will start at 10:45 a.m. and end noon-ish (see last weeks blurb for a fuller explanation of the “ish” factor).

And while we’re speaking of the making of happiness, let me add some info about our upcoming gatherings. We want to both provide opportunities to gather as a community and also deliberately stay clear of overloading what can already be a busy time of year. To that end, note the following:
We will have our “Not Quite Christmas” gathering on the morning of Sunday, December 17th. It’ll include a potluck meal and lots of time to just hang out and connect and (of course) some of the music of the season. More info on all of that in the coming weeks.

Last but not least, a reminder that your donations are what make it possible for The Table to exist in the forms that it does, including our online presence and podcasts. If you are able to offer financial support, the details of how to do that can be found here. Tax reciepts will be provided. If you have any questions about how your donated funds are allocated, just ask.

I’m grateful for what each person brings to The Table, and there is nothing that matters more than bringing your self and your willingness to explore what you believe together with fellow adventurers. In that spirit, I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,
Tim Plett
