World WHAT? Gardening Day?!

May 3, 2015

Hello Tablers. The following does not originate with me, and in due course I’ll tell you why I’m sharing it with you. But first, copied directly from their website, this brave announcement:

“Get ready for the Annual World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD)! People across the globe are encouraged, on the first Saturday of May, to tend their portion of the world’s garden unclothed as nature intended.

The individual that pointed out to me that today (Saturday) is World Naked Gardening Day also suggested that it may have originated in the UK, where walled gardens are more common – a worthy thought. But should you happen to go to the official website for this event (warning – ordinary people gardening naked!), you’ll discover people being encouraged to dance in the fields and to make daring raids on public gardens, not just to garden au naturel at home.

To be clear – I’m reporting, not advocating. That said, it strikes me that the folks behind this little known (little admitted?) movement might be after something not that far off from what many spiritual seekers are after – a more direct and intimate sense of connection to the world around us….to ALL aspects of that world, not just the ones that are easily managed or tidy or polite.

And that, of course, would include spirit – those aspects of the world that may be less tangible, but are no less real.

This week we will continue our exploration of spiritual practices that can both ground us and carry us into the presence of God. We’ll set out, and see where that takes us. Fear not – we will remain fully clothed.

Kids Table – it’s happening! It’s like the playoffs – there’s always a game on. Awesome!

May 24th – our last Sunday morning gathering before we switch to Wednesday evenings for the summer. This will also be a “Souper Sunday”, and a parent/child dedication.

NOTE: The folks that would usually oversee our Souper Sunday arrangements are all out of town on the 24th, so we need a volunteer to do that – this one time only. I’ll mention it again in Community Time, but let it perk.

See you on Sunday…
