The Spirituality of Lost-ness…
Hello Tablers! I’m looking forward to being with you on Sunday morning. Yep, still Sunday morning!
I have a friend whose combination of adventuresome spirit and work history have led her to live in several different large cities. Whenever she moves, the first thing she does when she has a block of free time is to go for a drive – without a map, GPS or any other navigational aids. Her stated purpose is to drive until she is thoroughly lost, and then to find her way back home. She says this is how she gets to really know where she is, and to both explore and live without fear in her new home.
These days, her work is helping ordinary (by which I partly mean “sheltered”) middle class kids to have adventurous encounters with both their own spirituality and with other human beings by leading them in acts of learning and service in both East Vancouver and in First Nations communities along the northern coast of BC. Doesn’t really sound all that surprising, does it?
Our culture can make it hard to get lost. And really, why would we want to? This Sunday, as part of our continued exploration of everyday spiritual practices, we’ll be asking what the benefits of getting lost might be, and considering how we might choose to do just that.
Hold The Date(s):
May 24th – our last Sunday morning gathering before we switch to Wednesday evenings. Also a Souper Sunday. Judi Heppner is coordinating the food part of our morning. Send an e-mail to tim@thetablewinnipeg.com with any questions you might have, or to let her know what you’ll be bringing.
May 24th – yes, I know that’s the same date. Just checking to see if you were paying attention. This date will also be a Parent/Child Dedication. Yeah!
June 3rd – our first Wednesday evening gathering. We’ll meet at 6:30 p.m. in the same place, unless we announce otherwise.
July 18 / 19th – The Table Beach Day – July 18th is the “official” date; the 19th is the “rain date”. Details will follow…
That’s it for now – see you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim Plett
