Re-raveling Spirituality

November 23, 2015

Wasn’t sure when I wrote it down that “re-ravelling” was a word. But then again, for those of you that pay attention to these sorts of things, this years “Word of the Year”, as selected by the Oxford University Press, wasn’t a word either. Look it up…

But on the matter of re-raveling (which IS a word)…I’ve often felt like lots of the folks I know are having the experience of having to unravel what they used to believe, and then search through the pile of threads for the ones they want or need to keep, and then re-ravel something new. Not the least of the threads lots of us have to deal with is the one that reminds us that we don’t measure up to some sort of divine standard of goodness.

And if you grew up around folks for whom the Bible was the gold standard for that idea, you already know the key text is in Romans.

Well, this week someone is going to stand up in front of our gathering and wade right into that territory. John Janzen (yep, the same John Janzen that sired those Janzen Boyz) is also a person of keen mind passionate heart when it comes to exploring what he believes, and his own explorations have led to this juncture. We get to be part of it, which I think is rather exciting!

So…put on your winter tires and head out. I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
