A True Story of Hope, Doubt and Faith
All right – for the cynics in our midst, I know that subject line might sound like the set up for a bad “Christian” movie trailer. But it’s not…it’s the set up for a complex, deeply probing story from within our own community. This week in the Talky Bit, Jane Penner and I will be having a conversation about her own journey with recurring doubt, complex hope and evolving faith. When we talked about how we want to approach this together, there were a couple of things Jane thought I might want to convey to all of you. First of all, her story includes some details about the loss of a child during pregnancy. So we’re going to be in tender, emotionally complicated terrain. She suggests you bring your own kleenex. Her and I will do the same. Or, if that subject matter causes significant misgivings, please be aware that at The Table it’s always o.k. get up and leave the room, or to just stay home. Do what feels safe and “doable” for you.
Also, this past Sunday morningwe spent our time together considering some questions about the nature of our community. It was a blast! At least, I was having a great time. However, not everyone was there. That would have been bizarre! But I really do want to spread these questions around and invite feedback from as wide a representation of people connected to The Table as possible. So, following are the questions we considered together in last Sunday. If you want to weigh in, please do so by replying to this email. Alternatively, if you were there on Sundayand want to expand on something you already shared, go for it. Here are the questions:
What’s one word you think describes The Table?
What are some topics you would like to see explored at our Sunday gatherings?
What do we do really well at The Table?
What could we do better / what might get in the way of you inviting someone to be your guest at a Sunday gathering?
Kids Table will be up and running (not a deliberate pun, but it has potential). Coffee will be on, fishy crackers will be on hand.
I’m looking forward to being with you at Creative Manitoba (4th floor) at 10:30 ish on Sunday morning.
Peace,
Tim Plett
