This Week at The Table

April 6, 2014

My maternal Grandfather was a compendium of folk sayings. Always prefaced by “Like the old fellar says…”, they were colorful, memorable, and usually at least obliquely funny.

So I guess my mom came by her collection of similar sayings honestly enough. I can remember a few, but one that has stuck with me very well, probably because it contained such a legitimate critique of a tendency of mine, was “You’re making a mountain out of a molehill”

If you grew up on the prairies, that is quite a picturesque bit of language. Molehill…mountain.  Vaguely related (both conical?) but obviously not the same. One small, one very large. Near-far…it all starts to feel like a Sesame Street sketch after a while

The point was, if something the size of a molehill looks like a mountain, you’ve probably lost your perspective.  This Sunday morning at The Table, we’re going to explore a story in which a shining hero in an epic Biblical story loses his perspective. We are also going to pay a visit to Sesame Street, and to a well known children’s read-along story with more than one possible ending.

We’ll gather at 10:30 at The Table (493 Notre Dame).

Things to put into your phone:

Good Friday on Thursday: April 17th, 8:00 p.m. at The Table

Easter Sunday morning Pot Luck: April 20th, 9:00 a.m.

See you on Sunday!

Peace,

Tim Plett
