Why you believe what you do

September 1, 2012

Sometimes, throughout the series we’ve been in during the month of August, I have led in way that has offered some questions for conversation, we’ve enjoyed some dialogue, and then I’ve offered some thoughts of my own or some reflection on that evenings subject.

This week I want to do something different. We will be watching the end of the film The Sunset Limited together. I don’t want to give anything away to those that haven’t seen the film, but I will say that the ending poses some uniquely challenging questions. Come prepared to seriously consider why you believe what you do, and to talk about that together with the group. This will not be a “right answer / wrong answer” exercise, but an attempt at honest articulation of some of the most challenging terrain that faith takes us into.

A few reminders – we begin to gather at 7, and really get rolling around 7:30. There is now coffee on a regular basis; remember to bring your own mug. Also, as far as I know (there have been occasional surprises!) we will be back in the “C” gallery this week for our LAST MONDAY NIGHT gathering of the summer. Next week we will be meeting on Sunday morning in the “A” gallery (the larger one, with the windows…). The look forward to the return of those folks in the community for whom Monday evenings have not been workable, not least of all the youngest people. I don’t presume to speak for us all in this, but I personally miss the sense of life and promise and energy that is uniquely fostered by the presence of children in our gatherings!

All this plus generous, secure, indoor bike parking at no extra charge. What a church!

See you on Monday night

Peace,

Tim Plett
