What Kind of House Has A Crowded Table?

Nov 17, 2019

On my best days I’m a pragmatic idealist. Big concepts, high ideals, 30,000 feet above the fray solving the world’s problems. But then I have to figure out how to not yell at the person that cuts me off in traffic or think (say?) something completely judgemental about another person, and I’m right back down at ground level, trying to work out how to live those ideals in practical, everyday kinds of ways. I believe that the path away from the divisiveness and violence that seem to increasingly be the norm depends on learning how to live with both high ideals and practical outworkings, but that it’s going to take some practice to get there. Metaphors can help. This Sunday in the Talky Bit we’ll explore the image of a house and what might make it a place of welcome for everyone, not just for a select few.

On other pragmatic matters – a reminder that the next two months are very important ones in our financial life as a community. Thank you to everyone that has responded over the past few weeks. It’s been very encouraging! If giving is part of how you participate in the ongoing life of The Table, please keep us in mind as you consider year-end gifts. Donations are tax receiptable.

Kids Table is on this week. We’re still looking for some people to bolster that team. If two folks step up it would be about a “one Sunday every two months with summers off” level of time commitment. If that intrigues you but more info would help, either let me know or talk with Arielle, who can tell you about it in more detail.

Also, a reminder to “hold the date” for the evening of Sunday, December 22nd for our Christmas gathering. We will NOT gather that morning. Instead, we’ll meet for a potluck meal at 6:00 p.m. followed by our gathering at 7:00. If history is any sort of guide, it’ll be an evening of all kinds of treats; gastronomical, relational, musical…so good.

We’re gathering this Sunday at Creative Manitoba, 10:30 a.m. (ish). Looks like this is our confirmed venue for the balance of the year, which is a nice feeling.

I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace

-Tim Plett
