What Is a "Blessing" Anyway?

Hey everyone – You may have noticed that there are quite a few kids around The Table these days. If you’ve been part of this community for a few years, you might even be able to remember when there were no kids. But then…well, things started to change. And now it’s not bizarre for there to be quite a crowd of the littles around. Once in a while, we really stop and focus on some of the most vulnerable in our midst. This week and next week will have components of that. We’ll celebrate a parent/child dedication on both those weeks, which I’m quite excited about. As kind of the ritual centerpiece of that, we’ll all share in offering a “blessing”; community to parents and children, parents to children and so on.
Which leads me to the subject line – what is a “blessing” anyway? This concept, as it turns out, isn’t a static one (surprise!), but an evolving one. And we at The Table get to be part of continuing that evolution. So come prepared to be part of something both ancient and new, and to reflect a bit on your own history with this concept.
We’ll be meeting at Creative Manitoba,  245 McDermot Avenue, fourth floor. If this is a new location for you, or you are dropping by for the first time, we’ll put out scads of signs. Just remember to be patient with the elevator. It’s not broken, it’s just “vintage”. You know…cool. But sooo slow.  🙂

As usual, our official start time is 10:30. If you’re coming for the first time, be aware that we tend to trickle in and actually get underway at 10:45. (Yes, I know that is willfully self-deceptive, but it seems to work for us.) There will be coffee. Not Starbucks coffee, not Thom Bargen coffee…but still coffee.

Also, a couple of housekeeping matters:
  • Photos – we want some of yours to use as backgrounds. Send them to this email address, or bring them with you on a portable drive on a Sunday morning.
  • Photos, part 2 – we would love someone to step up and take some pictures at our gatherings over the next several weeks. No particular schedule for this; we just want to provide some visual information on the web site and despite my love of many words, you know what they say about the picture to word ratio
  • Music – if you’ve been harboring a secret desire to be part of the music making at The Table, it’s time to make that known. Our current roster is placing a rather heavy demand on the folks that are already committed, and it would be great to add to that team.

I think that’s it for now.

I’ll see you on Sunday.

Peace,

Tim Plett
