Upon Further, Further, Further Reflection (Part 3)

Jan 18, 2026

I don’t know how many of you grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons, but if you did you might remember how Wile E. Coyote used to order these diabolical tools from ACME to deploy in his pursuit of the Road Runner (beep, beep – you can hear it in your head, I know you can). One feature of those tools (stay with me, I’m going somewhere I hope is relevant to our process) is that they often arrived in a very compact form, and expanded rapidly into something larger and more complex with the addition of one other component, like water.

I’m feeling like our “upon reflection” journey is a bit like that – we’re working together on trying to capture some of who we are as a community and to gain insight from that into what we could to move even further toward facilitating the “making of room to explore what we believe”. And, along the way, the thing we are making keeps expanding.

This metaphor is already breaking down, so I’m just gonna go for it…I think one of the reasons this process keeps expanding (and that’s a good thing, to be clear) is because what we’re pouring on it is passion. We care about and value our reason for existing and we want to lean into it, both for our own benefit and for the possible benefit of others. All to say, hurrah for Part 3, in which we will continue to ask “what can we do better?”.

When we gather on Sunday (10:45 a.m., VA Cafe), we’ll check in with some Community Time and then dig into Part 3 with a quick review of what we’ve already shared, and further inquiry about what we could do better. If you want to think ahead a bit, we’ll be focused on what we could do better if we had more or different resources than we do at present. We will livestream the first part of our gathering here. As has been the case for the past two weeks, we won’t livestream the reflection part of the morning.

There will be something on offer for Kids Table this week as we get back into our regular schedule for that part of our time together.
I’m looking forward to our time together.

See you on Sunday!
Peace,

Tim Plett
