Too Many Stars – Not Quite Christmas at The Table

Dec 18, 2022

Hey folks – our Not Quite Christmas gathering is just around the corner. This Sunday, December 18th, will mark several noteworthy occasions. It’ll be our Christmas celebration / program (no kids in bathrobes, but we’ll do what we can), it will be our last gathering in 2022, and it will be our first Souper Sunday in who-knows-how-long. All important milestones, and all rolled up in one great party at 170 Scott Street (the Rainbow Resource Centre) starting at the usual time (10:45 a.m.) on Sunday. We will livestream this gathering, but there will not be a podcast.

And now, the details:

-Time and location – see above
-Program – lots and lots of music! From seasonal classics to the unexpected, with a dash of class thrown in for the highbrow crowd. Come ready to sing! Also, some poetry. Because…do we really need a reason?
-Souper Sunday – just in case we’ve forgotten how to do this, it’s an old-school potluck where we actually take our chances and (so far) have never gone home hungry. It’s lunch, so we’re suggesting things like soups, salads, and goodies. Buns purchased on the way to The Table work too. Please note – show up whether you have food with you or not. There’s never been a shortage. We’ve got access to a couple of stove tops / ovens and two complete kitchens, so plan accordingly.

-Calendar for the rest of the year – We will not have a gathering on December 25th or January 1stbut are planning to resume with an in-person gathering on January 8th. Keep your eye on the Facebook page for something before then. And, of course, I’ll send out a blurb sometime in the first week of January to remind us.

-Money – because we need that too. I don’t want to be melodramatic or a downer, but at this point this is not a casual “it would be nice it” item. As Justin so succinctly put it a couple of weeks ago, we’re broke. We need your financial support to continue to meet our obligations. Ways to give online can be found here. If you would rather use a cheque, the info required can also be found on our website. All gifts will be gratefully received, responsibly applied to the expenses of The Table, and transparently accounted for at our AGM. Tax receipts will be provided. If you have any questions, please be in touch.

And, of course, this comes with heartfelt thanks for all the ways people support, care for and make possible the community that is The Table. This place matters, because no one should have to explore what they believe, alone.
I’ll see you on Sunday, and we’ll celebrate together!
Peace,
Tim Plett
