This Week at alt.christmas…

December 13, 2015

Hey Tablers. This week I can’t seem to shake the image of ordinary people (that would be almost all of us) sort of stumbling along through Advent, hoping to encounter God. The other part of that image is that most of what is making us stumble has to do with “Christmas”-with the stereotypes and expectations we place on this particular time of year, and even on the Biblical stories that underpin it.

So this Sunday, I want to take a bit of a swipe at some of the things that can trip us up. Hence the “alt.christmas” of the subject line. I’ll have some particularly lovely assistance in this task from a team of young dancers that will be paying us a visit, and from the song they will be dancing to.

This is also our last gathering before our own celebration of Christmas, which will take place next Sunday evening. Details are as follows:

Our special Christmas gathering will happen on the evening of Sunday, December 20th (no morning gathering that day). We will share a feast together and then celebrate. Doors at 5:00pm, Dinner at 5:30pm and Celebration at 6:30pm.

The Table will provide ham and perogies and the rest of the meal is potluck. Volunteers are needed to make this happen; please check the sign-up sheets at church to see how you can help. BYOB.

Come for all of the evening, or just come for part of it…as you are able. Feel free to bring guests. We’ll all do our best to help them feel at home.

A little food note – if you are one of the people that is planning to prepare a ham, they will be available for pick up on Sunday morning at The Table.

Also – it’s a Kids Table Sunday! This is getting to feel like a good habit…

I’ll see you on Sunday morning.

Peace,

Tim Plett
