This Season We’re In

Apr 5, 2020

I know this isn’t everyone’s experience, but I’m betting that there are more than a few of us that haven’t started a vehicle for days. I imagine the earth is breathing deep, enjoying the reduction in emissions even while some of us are looking up “how to combat cabin fever” online. And then (we’re Canadian after all) we could talk about the weather. Ack! I thought I could put away the snow shovel collection for this winter. But no…

All these things are part of “this season we’re in”. There’s a linkage between what’s going on outside our windows, both in the weather and in global / local events, and what is happening in our hearts. That connection is what I want to explore in this week’s Talky Bit.

A few details about this week’s virtual gathering:

Sunday morning: After a super-glitchy (and finally abandoned) live streaming adventure this past Sunday, we’re trying something a bit different. We’ll still meet online on the The Table Church Facebook page at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. We’ll have some live streamed music, a chance to share with the community via the Comments section of Facebook, and to hold space together for whatever is going on in our lives. You can find the group login here.  NOTE: In order to preserve some semblance of community safety, the group is private. If you have not already joined, please use the link to send a request and the site admin (some members of the Leadership Team) will add you.
So far, that’s the same as last week. The different part is that the Talky Bit (which is what crashed last week) will be pre-recorded and posted after we’re done the livestream music and community time part. Then we’ll have a “watch party”. It will hopefully feel very similar, but be stable and viewable. Plus (and for me this will be a completely new / somewhat strange experience), we’ll be able to interact with the Talky Bit in the Comments section, while it’s going on and following…and I get to be in on the interaction! Might work great, might be strange and bizarre. Hard to say. Let’s just try it and see where it goes. We’re all in “try this” mode already, so we can add this to the list of new experiences.
Also, a reminder that if you have requests or things that you want to share but a private Facebook group seems too public, please feel free to be in touch with me directly. I can best be reached by replying to this email. Your reply will come directly to my personal, private inbox. If you want to text or chat on the phone, just email me and I’ll send you my phone number. I’ve had some lovely phone calls and email exchanges with folks this past week, and I would be delighted to see that continue.
If you are “facebook averse”, we will continue to post a podcast version of the Talky Bit each week as soon as possible after the Facebook session closes. The Livestream and Talky Bit remain on the Facebook page and can be viewed any time, not just while it is being streamed. We’re also exploring posting the Talky Bit on Youtube so people can share it outside the group if they want to. Once again, we’ll keep you posted.
Money: As with the rest of our community experience, this is about information not obligation. If you are able, please continue to support our community financially. We don’t have access to our debit machine, but donations can be made through our Paypal account or by setting up an auto-withdrawal. Direct links or further information on those options can be found here. Some people have asked about e-transfer, and we’re making progress on that. As soon as we have concrete info on it, we’ll let you know.
Thanks for staying the course through all these changes. I think our inclination to explore has uniquely equipped us for a time like this.
As much as we’re able, I look forward to exploring “with you” on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
