The Confusing and Beautiful Intersection of Happiness, Endings and Beginnings – The Pursuit of Happiness, Part Last

Dec 11, 2022

Well, that subject line is long enough that we probably don’t need the blurb.  🙂  A few more words about endings and beginnings, as follows:

This Sunday is a Kids Table Sunday. That’s always an occasion, and this week it will also mark a kind of ending. This will be Amy’s last Kids Table Sunday with us. We’ll talk more about that in Community Time, but for now I would invite you to give some thought to what you might want to share in appreciation of all the years that Amy has provided such consistent, creative and thoughtful care for the youngest of our community. If you can be there to share in person, awesome. If you can’t, please feel free to post on our Facebook page or send me an email to share.

Next Sunday is our last before Christmas, and the occasion for our “Not Quite Christmas” celebration. The format will be a bit different than usual, most notably by the inclusion of a lot more music and a lot less talking, as well as FOOD!  🙂   We’ll meet at our usual time (10:45 a.m.), but our gathering will end with a Souper Sunday potluck. Feel free to come for only part of the time if that helps, and to leave whenever you need to, but please do come if at all possible. Potluck will be soups, salads, buns and goodies…or dishes that approximate that. In short, lunch not dinner. We have lots of oven and stove top space available, just so you know.

There will not be a gathering on December 25th.

In the Talky Bit, the last of this series on The Pursuit of Happiness, we’ll explore a couple of stories about what we can do to continue to pursue happiness even when it feels like we are surrounded either by endings or by the threat of endings. In a somewhat curious twist, some of the stories will be about “a” Bible, but not about “the” Bible. Curious yet? Come out if you can, or plan to catch the livestream here or the podcast here.

Also, as Justin reminded us all with such clarity last week, “we’re broke”. Our financial need is pressing, so if you are able to support  The Table in this way, this month would be an excellent time to do so.  Information about ways to make donations can be found here, and tax receipts will be issued in advance of tax time next year.

I’ll see you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim Plett
