On Friendship, Loneliness, Vulnerability and More – an alt.Sunday with superstar guests plus Kids Table and a Community Survey

Sep 29, 2024

Hey folks – welcome to the bonus Sunday in September! I’m sitting outside in the sunshine writing this, and feeling more like it’s August. So beautiful!

Note – this email has several items of interest. I would encourage you to read it all.

When we gather at VA Cafe this Sunday at 10:45 a.m., we’ll be sharing space (virtually, at least) with two thought leaders that are having quite a moment. Simon Sinek is well known in leadership circles for his unapologetic commitment to the importance of getting our “why” sorted before we move on to “what” and “how”, and Trevor Noah is a South African comedian, t.v. host, political commentator and author with a refreshing perspective on human wellbeing. We will join the audience for a relatively spontaneous conversation they had at the Brilliant Minds conference in Stockholm earlier this year. No airfare, no jet lag, no standing in line. Fill your physical cup upstairs, then come on down to the event space to fill up your mental cup with interesting and challenging perspectives on some of the key issues of our time

Kids Table isn’t usually a feature on alt.Sundays, but (whoop!) this week it is!

Also, as many of you will be aware, September 30th (Monday) is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. There are many available events to participate in, one of which is the Wa-Say Healing Centre Healing Walk. You can find more information about that event and others here.

And last but not least, as I mentioned in the blurb last week, we’re sending out a Community Survey to help enlarge our perspective on how people (both in the present configuration of our community and in the past) experience The Table. I think Simon Sinek would be pleased with the clarity of our “why” (to make room to explore what we believe), and there is always room to improve the “how”.  If you are able, please take the time to complete the survey and add your perspective to the conversation. You can find the survey online here.

As always, I’m looking forward to our gathering on Sunday. If you are not able to join in person, we’ll livestream the first part of our time together here.

I’ll see you on Sunday.
Peace,

Tim Plett
