Not-Quite-Christmas at The Table
Dec 29, 2019
***UPDATE***Due to the nature of this service we did not record it for the podcast.
Hey folks – I’m really looking forward to our get-together this Sunday evening! By this time, many of us have done whatever it is we do to celebrate Christmas – family times, special events, a couple of days off work…whatever shape this might take for us. Today is “Boxing Day”…the day when we decide whether we’re packing up the mess or rushing to the mall. There are, of course, alternatives to all of the tropes. And I expect that some of us have chosen to engage this season is less “traditional” ways. Some of us haven’t had a choice, which is another story entirely.
To my way of thinking, when we meet on the 29th we have a chance to share some of the best of what a season like this might offer us – a safe, warm place to be with friends and fellow-travellers, a space in which we don’t have to defend (or even define) our ideas, where we can share with one another and be grateful for plenty, and in which we can exchange the gifts of time together, music, and good food. When it comes to experiences worth celebrating, that sounds pretty good to me!
The Details: We will meet at Creative Manitoba at 6:00 p.m. to share a pot-luck (plus) meal. The Table has purchased some hams and perogies and Ray is bringing a turkey (as close as we get to food traditions, next to Timbits). If you are able, bring what you think might compliment that – a favorite side dish, salad, dessert, etc. If you are not able to bring anything, please come anyway!
The “program” (I kind of feel like we need a different name for this – like “Talky Bit”, but for Christmas) will start when we feel like it should – and also somewhere around 7:00 p.m. If you can only come for part of the evening, please feel free to do that. It’ll be good to see you, even if you have to come late or dash off early.
And to those of you that can’t be there, since I won’t email you again before the New Year, I hope that this Christmas and transition into 2020 will be the beginning of a year of renewed hope, restored joy, and moments of deep peace.
I’m looking forward to Sunday.
